In Their Own Words : The Navy Fights the War of 1812
Please join us on June 22 at 2:00 p.m. to welcome George W. Emery, Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (Retired).
According to Christopher McKee of the Newberry Library, Chicago, "George W. Emery has for many years been a student of naval history and an astute and assiduous collector of books, manuscripts, and ephemera that document this tradition-forming period in the U.S. Navy's history. In Their Own Words follows the run-up to and the course of the War of 1812 in documents that the author has selected from his larger collection to highlight this central event in the Navy's early story." (Foreword, In Their Own Words.) Light refreshments will follow.

Evening Book Group
Come to our next meeting on May 30th at 6:30. We will be discussing When We Were the Kennedys by Monica Wood.
This is a beautifully composed snapshot of how a family, a town—and, later, a country—grieves and goes on...The bonds between family members, neighbors, and coworkers, as well as men and their professions, are all explored here with sensitivity and a sweetness that isn’t saccharine." —Library Journal |
